Getting Here

Visiting for a day trip or staying for a few days, it's easy by car, train or bus.

How to find us

By Car

We are situated in North East Wales and as a general guide, you can get here via the M53 or M56 from the North West, and the M54 from the Midlands.

Just follow the road signs from the A539 (Ruabon interchange).

There are three car parks signposted off the A539:

  • the main car park is on Queen Street (LL14 3SG) near Cefn Mawr
  • one car park off Station Road for disabled blue badge and permit holders only (LL20 7TY)
  • an overspill and coach parking at Wimbourne Gate, Queens Street, Cefn Mawr (LL14 3NP)

Please note: Drivers are advised not to park at the Froncysyllte Basin just off the A5. There are limited spaces available here and parking is prioritised for residents. All traffic should access our official car parks from the A539 (Ruabon – Llangollen road) and follow signs for car parking.

By Train

There are mainline train stations at Chirk and Ruabon, where you can catch a bus to the World Heritage Site. You can catch any of the stations along the Llangollen Heritage Railway, which runs between Corwen and Llangollen.

Please check the timetables for your journey.

By Bus

The key visitor hubs within the World Heritage Site are all easily reachable by bus from both Wrexham Town Centre and Ruabon Station. The number 5 bus (operated by Arriva Bus Wales) departs Wrexham Bus Station (twenty-five past each hour) and Ruabon Station (forty-three minutes past each hour) every hour between 7am and 10pm, before following the A539 along the north of the World Heritage Site corridor passing Station Road (alight for Trevor Basin) and arriving in Llangollen where the service terminates.

The number 2 bus also services Chirk town centre every hour and connects to the number 5 route at Plas Madoc Leisure Centre on the A539.
