Aqueducks Friends of the World Heritage Site

The Aqueducks are made up of community group representatives from the 11 mile corridor that is Pontcysyllte Aqueduct and Canal World Heritage Site. We have set up our group to help protect, promote and improve the World Heritage Site. Membership of the Aqueducks is open to anyone who is interested in helping the group achieve its aims,

We aim to:-

Carry out and promote environmental and heritage improvements and practical conservation

To educate, encourage and support environmental practice

To raise funds to finance events and activities

To publicise and promote the World Heritage Site

Organise meetings, training courses and events

Work with similar groups and exchange information and advice

With a range of opportunities available for people of all ages and abilities, whatever your skills or experience we would welcome your input.

Over the last 8 years we have carried out a number of different community led projects, these have included:

The production of a Pontcysyllte calendar, featuring local residents photographs and local recipes

A Heritage Lottery Funded project, named ‘Living along the cut’ where we collected local people’s memories and stories about living in and around the World Heritage Site.
